Frequently Asked Questions

Q:

A:

How tall are the figures?

The Series 1/Elements of Courage figures are 4 inches tall – each inch packed with Power!  Soon we will be introducing Courage herself, and she will be a 6 inch figure.

Q:

A:

Why are there 2 Elements Trading Cards included with my figure?  Was this a mistake?

Not at all!  We put our own IAmElemental spin on the trading card concept.  Instead of having to give up something in order to get something, we decided it was more Powerful to keep one and SHARE the other.  We like to share!  As we always say,  shared, everyone’s powers grow stronger.

Once you have collected all 7 cards, you will find a secret message on the back. Take a picture of the message and send it to us at [email protected].  Include your your mailing address and we will send you a bracelet to wear your shields on.

Q:

A:

Can I buy individual figures?

Certainly – collect all 7!  Currently individual Elements of Courage are available for purchase via our growing list of Retail Partners (linked here)

Q:

A:

When will my credit card be charged?

If we do not have the item you want in our warehouse when you place your order (and we hope that we do…), we will charge your credit card only when your purchase ships, when it is out the door and on the road to you.  Not before. Not ever.  This is true for all orders.

Q:

A:

Do you ship Internationally?

We are pleased to offer international shipping to most places in the world.  Check shipping options and rates on the check-out page of your order.   We want to make sure that everyone can Play with Power! ™

Q:

A:

How do I get a bracelet?

It’s a bit of a treasure hunt!  Each Element of Courage comes with a designated trading card.  On the back of each card you will find part of a secret message.  Collect all 7 figures, flip the cards over and crack the code.  Words of Power will be revealed!  Take a picture of the message, send it to us at [email protected] with your mailing address and we will send you a bracelet so you can wear your shields as charms.  Purchase of the Lunchbox includes a bracelet.

What is the story with the Red Honesty figure?  And where can I get one?

Red Honesty is a special bonus figure that we created exclusively as a Thank You for our fabulous Kickstarter Backers at the end of our campaign in June 2014.  The support and encouragement we received from the community during that time was so extraordinary that we simply had to create a Superpowered token of our appreciation.

The Collectors Tin is beautiful!  Why is it sold-out and will there be more?

Thank you.  We love the Collectors Tin too.
Every IAmElemental Series will have a Limited Edition Collectors Tin created specifically for the series, which will be released around the time of the series launch.  The tin, designed primarily for display, includes all 7 series figures, their accessories and shields.  Because it is a specialty item, the Collectors Tin will not be reproduced once the limited edition run has sold out.  The Collectors Tin for Series 1/Courage is no longer available.

What is special about the design of the figures?

We spent a lot of time ensuring that our action figures represent a forward-thinking design and engineering sensibility beyond what is typically found in products geared toward girls.  Each 4″ Element of Courage figure has nine points of articulation.  She poses, stands, moves and sits without splaying her legs inappropriately.  They each wear armor, have a removable accessory that speaks to their superpower, and can hold an identifying shield in their hand.  Our figures are designed for imaginative, active play and we are very proud of them.

What about the colors of the figures?

We have gotten some great comments on the color palette we chose for our first series. We intentionally selected a series of seven colors that have no relation to skin tone; we did not want ethnicity to play a role in how any individual power is defined or perceived. For example, Fear’s skin is purple. Others are shades of pink, red, orange, etc.  And this is only the beginning. Each series will have a different color palette. Ultimately, IAmElemental will explore a whole range of colors.

A note about Fear: the figures are not people. They are the personification of powers and elements, which reside in each one of us. Furthermore, they are bound together as the components of Courage, and cannot be separated. Courage cannot exist without Fear. Purple was selected because Fear can be fiercer and more mysterious than the other Elements. And that is fitting, because Fear is harder to understand. See our blog post on the subject (linked here).

However, we would strongly argue against viewing Fear as a negative. We want girls to own and know their Fear, and to transform the role that it plays in their lives. Those who see it as only negative miss its inherent strength.

In the IAmElemental universe, Fear is something to be embraced, not rejected. It has to be understood and accepted. It’s a good discussion – and one that we hope people will have with friends and children.

Why did you choose Joan of Arc as the muse for the Courage Series?

IAmElemental is founded on the premise that every single one of us is already a superhero, and that all the superpowers we could ever want or need are already inside each one of us.  To that end, we are committed to inspiring girls (and boys) to be their best, most powerful selves by sharing with them examples of real world heroism.  We spent a lot of time collecting stories of powerful women who have done amazing things.  Once we decided that Courage was going to be the theme for our first series, Joan of Arc was an obvious Muse.  Leading an army in to battle was not only exceeding rare for women of her time but men as well.  The fact that she was only a teenager at the time adds to her allure.  Joan of Arc was honest, persistent, industrious, enthusiastic, and she was brave.  Her story sends a clear and powerful message that, no matter our circumstances, everyone has the capacity to be Courageous and do amazing things.

Your factory is in China.  Why don’t you produce in the US?

We are a very small company and in order for us to offer an affordable retail price to our customers it is not feasible for us to produce our figures in the United States right now — as much as we would love to.  With that said, we are very happy with our manufacturing partner.  They are experts in this type of figure production, which we think is evident in the high quality of the figures.  We hope you agree.

But who knows, maybe some day kids will be able to print their own IAmElemental figures with a 3-D printer! Now, that would be Powerful!

What about Barbie?  American Girl? Are you guys against those dolls?

IAmElemental isn’t anti-doll or anti-princess.  American Girl, Barbie and other toys present one option.  IAmElemental wants to offer choice in play rather than limit girls to traditionally popular toys and their story lines.  As we say, if you give a girl a different toy, she will tell a different story.™

Will there be comic books or graphic novels?

We get asked this a lot. The short answer: Yes. There will eventually be comic books and graphic novels – just maybe not in the way that people expect. Redefining the action figure ethos means that we have to change the way we approach visual story-telling as well. Ultimately, we want to be a conduit for the stories inside every girl, boy, man, and woman so that they can be shared and celebrated. Stay tuned.
